Andrei Popovici Biography

Andrei Popovici is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Iași, Romania, and a Master’s student at UNAGE. His practice fuses video art, scenic design, and new technologies. His recent work focuses on interactive installations and video mapping, earning him prestigious awards such as ‘The Creative’ Scholarship (Romanian Creative Week 2025) and the ‘Classix in Art’ Scholarship (2026). His works, including ‘Tree of Life’ and ‘Aural’, have been exhibited at Art Safari Bucharest, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, and international festivals. Concurrently, he creates video designs for theatre and performance art in Iași and Sibiu, continuously exploring the relationship between digital imagery and physical space.

“In my artistic practice, I explore the liminal space between physical and digital reality. I view technology not merely as a tool for execution, but as a fluid medium capable of altering perception and generating new types of spatiality. I am interested in the moment the viewer ceases to be a passive witness and becomes an integral part of the artwork, whether through direct interaction in generative installations or the sensory immersion offered by video mapping.

My recent works, such as Tree of Life or Aural, investigate the organic relationship between nature and algorithms, questioning how primordial elements can be recontextualized through digital language. Whether working on a building façade or within the black box of a theatre stage, my aim remains the same: to transform inert surfaces into living organisms, using light and motion to provoke an immediate emotional response.”
