Farrukh Adnan Biography

“Farrukh Adnan is a visual artist whose drawing-based practice explores memory, land, and the quiet archaeology of place. Born in 1984 in Tulamba, Pakistan, he grew up among mounds, terracotta shards, traces of past civilization and observing his father work with land records.

He holds a degree in Visual Communication Design from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, 2009, and a Master’s in Art and Design Studies from the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts, Beaconhouse National University (BNU), 2014. and has showcased his work nationally and internationally. Based between Lahore and Washington, D.C., Adnan continues to create poetic cartographies that reflect layered histories, human interaction, and cultural memory.”

“My practice grows from walking sites, observing terrain, and collecting terracotta, soil, and marks in my hometown, Tulamba, in southern Punjab. Childhood exposure to land records and Masavi Latha (land survey) maps through my father’s work shaped my understanding of space, memory, and history, guiding my focus toward socially palimpsestic landscapes marked by memory, displacement, and human presence.

My drawings combine fragments of excavation plans, aerial views, and ancient south asian pottery motifs into calligraphic fields of marks. Through layering, abstraction, and repetition, echoing the rhythm of poetry, I trace environmental shifts and cultural histories, creating a visual language that bridges past and present.”
