Sheva Ram’s practice engages with the concept of illusion, exploring perceptual shifts through the interplay of line, color, and design. Central to his process is the use of masking tape as both a medium and a structural tool, allowing him to construct and deconstruct surfaces through a methodical layering technique. This approach reveals and conceals visual information over time, creating a dynamic tension between precision and ambiguity.”

“When I think of my childhood in a small village in Sindh, I remember a sky full of questions and a mind full of scattered thoughts. Nothing felt certain. Yet, in that quiet confusion, a single line became my anchor. Simple, unremarkable, but unwavering it held the weight of my thoughts when I could not.
That line grew with me. It became my language, my rhythm, my way of translating what I could not speak. Today, when I face a blank canvas, I begin the same way tracing the pathways of my mind in verticals, horizontals, and diagonals. Each line becomes a heartbeat. Each direction becomes a choice. And the tape wrapped around my wrist feels like a small oath to stay honest in the process.
My paintings unfold like the universe creating its own geometry precise yet unpredictable. I work with the steadiness of a mathematician, the discipline of an engineer, and the tenderness of a butterfly brushing a petal. Layer by layer, the silence of the white canvas stirs first a whisper, then a murmur, and finally a burst — an explosion that claims its place in the world.
Color arrives slowly, almost shyly. I use it only when the painting asks for it, when a new thought insists on being heard. My lines have neither beginning or ends they breathe in cycles, in rhythms, pulling the viewer into their orbit. At times, colors seep in like sudden memories unplanned, unexpected, yet necessary.
My journey continues this way turning confusion into clarity, turning stillness into movement, turning the quiet line into a world of its own.”
