Syeda Seerat Zainab Biography

Syeda Seerat Zainab is a contemporary visual artist and art curator based in Lahore, Pakistan. She holds two master’s degrees in fine arts—first in Painting from the College of Art and Design, Punjab University (2017), and the second in Visual Art from the National College of Arts, Lahore (2020). Seerat further enriched her practice through an international artist residency and scholarship at the Sacred Art School, Florence, Italy in 2023.

Her artistic work spans a wide range of mediums including clay, metal, oil on canvas, and pencil, and she is known for her conceptual exploration of perception and materiality. Her practice questions the nature of reality by blurring boundaries between tangible and intangible, illusion and substance—often through the strategic redefinition of everyday objects using unexpected materials.

Seerat is an active educator, currently serving as Visiting Lecturer at the Lahore School of Economics and the National College of Arts, Lahore. She has also taught at the University of the Punjab and served as a drawing instructor at Zuhaib Roy Drawing Studio.

As a curator, she has led significant exhibitions at Muse Art Gallery in Lahore, including Harrow Gah—an innovative showcase of contemporary calligraphy in 2D and 3D—and the two-part figurative group exhibition Essence of Era I & II, which explored the evolution of figurative art in Pakistan.

With over nine years of exhibition experience, Seerat has participated in numerous prestigious group shows across Pakistan, including venues such as Canvas Gallery and Art Chowk in Karachi, Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery at NCA, Alhamra Art Gallery, and Lok Virsa in Islamabad. Her work is part of the permanent collection at Ambiance Boutique Art Hotel.

Her accolades include 1st Prize in the “Best Young Artist” Award at Alhamra (2017) and 2nd position at Shakir Ali Museum’s art competition (2015). Seerat continues to investigate cultural and philosophical questions through her art, offering a visual dialogue on the nature of perception and existence.
