Tahir bilal Ummi Biography

Tahir Bilal Ummi, born in 1990, is a visual artist who has been actively engaged in the field of painting for the past sixteen years. Deeply inspired by the landscapes of Punjab, particularly the Salt Range, his work is rooted in both traditional and modern techniques. For Ummi, the Salt Range is more than just scenery—it is a space of warmth, light, and constant transformation. He considers it unrestrictive and endlessly inspiring, with its golden grasslands, shifting seasons, and distinct sunlight that brings the earth to life.

Ummi’s paintings are a response to the unique light, textures, and formations of the Salt Range. He blends composition, color, and texture to create a sense of movement within stillness. His use of texture, in particular, plays a vital role in inviting the viewer’s eye to travel through the canvas, engaging both visually and intellectually. His practice reflects a deep understanding of nature’s rhythm and subtle variations—each repetition in landscape offering new meaning.

Over the years, Ummi has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. Highlights include solo and group shows at Gallery 6 Islamabad, Alhamra Art Gallery Lahore, Artciti Gallery Karachi, Nomad Gallery Islamabad, and Rangrez Art Gallery Lahore. He has also exhibited internationally in virtual exhibitions held by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and others.

In recognition of his talent, he received the Pushkalawati Award in 2019 (KPK) and has been part of multiple art residencies and national exhibitions, including those by PNCA and the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi. His work continues to be displayed in leading galleries across the country, earning him a strong and growing reputation in Pakistan’s contemporary landscape art scene.
