Artist Statement

My paintings are rooted in the landscape of the Mourne Mountains - a place that continually fills me with awe and a deep sense of connection to the earth. I am drawn to the physicality of paint and the raw textures it creates, allowing me to capture not only the appearance of the land, but also the feeling of being within it. I aim to reflect the movement, atmosphere, and energy of these landscapes. Ultimately, my work is about connection: to place, to memory, and to the quiet power of the natural world.

Artist Statement

I use the night as my canvas and light as my brush, drawing in the darkness. My work exists somewhere between photography and painting - each exposure is a performance that can never be repeated.
Chinese-style light painting is my way of expressing Eastern aesthetics. Unlike traditional painting, which allows for revision and repetition, every stroke of light is a challenge: precision is critical, timing cannot be corrected, the body moves through the darkness while the image takes shape in the mind. There are no backup sketches, no undo buttons. This is precisely why every piece I create is a unique, unrepeatable moment.
I am drawn to the tension of "one-shot" creation - the possibility of failure and the razor-sharp focus it demands make every image an adventure. As the light trails freeze in the air, the night becomes my one and only canvas.

Artist Statement

This presentation brings together a body of work I developed during the art residency at DAS
(Digital Arts Studios).
The project originates from a series of abstract paintings that have previously been exhibited at the Rome Art Fair in Italy at Medina Art Gallery, where the works explored colour, gesture, and spatial emotion as autonomous visual languages within a contemporary painting practice.
In this new iteration, selected paintings from that series are digitally reworked and merged with a real-time photograph taken by her in front of the City Hall during the last summer.
By bringing together these two distinct visual registers one rooted in abstract painterly expression and already exhibited within an international context, and the other grounded in documentary photography- Shahrukh constructs a hybrid visual environment where reality and imagination continuously intersect.
Through layering, digital manipulation, and spatial reconfiguration, the works dissolve the boundary between the physical city and the imagined one.
The architectural presence of City Hall becomes a site of transformation, where abstract painted forms intervene within photographic space, disrupting its stability and opening it up to interpretation, memory, and illusion.
In Between the Realms reflects this state of in-betweenness, between painting and photography, exhibition history and new creation,
documentation and fantasy. The title suggests a transitional space, where visual language is constantly in motion and perception is never fixed.

Artist statement

My work in After the Image emerges from a desire to move beyond representation and enter a space where painting becomes an intuitive, emotional, and sensory experience. Abstraction allows me to explore what I feel rather than what I see. Each canvas is a field of movement shaped by colour, gesture, and texture, where forms shift, dissolve, or reappear in unexpected ways. I approach my paintings as conversations rather than constructions. They evolve through layers of instinctive mark-making, moments of control and release, and the quiet presence of introspection. The process is fluid, often guided by rhythm, memory, and the subtle tensions between clarity and ambiguity. In this body of work, I am less interested in depicting the external world and more focused on revealing the internal states that influence how we perceive it. The absence of figurative imagery is intentional; it opens space for viewers to engage with the work through their own emotions, associations, and interpretations. After the Image invites a slower kind of looking, one that encourages contemplation, openness, and personal dialogue. Through abstraction, I aim to create environments that hold space for discovery, stillness, and the unfolding of meaning on the viewer’s own terms.
